Fubara commends Nigerian Army over fight against oil theft, pipeline vandalism

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts in combating pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering, noting that the operations have contributed to improved crude oil production and increased national revenue.
The governor gave the commendation on Friday when the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt, ahead of activities marking the Nigerian Army’s 163rd anniversary celebration.
Shaibu was accompanied by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, and other senior officers of the Nigerian Army.
Fubara said the operations of the 6 Division in Rivers State have significantly improved security and helped protect lives and critical national assets.
He also praised the Army for choosing Rivers State as the venue for the anniversary celebrations, describing it as a reflection of the state’s relative peace and importance.
He pledged continued support for the military, assuring that the state government would cooperate fully to ensure security agencies operating in Rivers State can effectively carry out their duties.
“We owe you our support. We are not going to rest on our oars in ensuring that we do whatever we need to do to make you succeed,” the governor said.
Responding, the Chief of Army Staff thanked the Rivers State Government for its consistent support, particularly in providing facilities such as stadium infrastructure and logistical assistance for the anniversary events.
He noted that the week-long programme of activities is designed not only to celebrate the Army’s 163rd anniversary but also to strengthen civil-military relations and deepen engagement with host communities.
Shaibu added that the Army remains committed to sustaining operations against oil theft, vandalism, and other security threats in the Niger Delta region.
