Tinubu celebrates Wole Soyinka at 92

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on his 92nd birthday, describing the renowned playwright, author and activist as “a gift we will always treasure” for his enduring contributions to Nigeria and the world.
In a statement released by the State House, the President praised Soyinka’s remarkable legacy in literature, democracy and the fight for justice, calling him one of Nigeria’s most distinguished and influential public figures.
Tinubu highlighted Soyinka’s fearless stand against oppression, saying his courage, integrity and willingness to challenge injustice have inspired generations.
He also recalled the literary icon’s role in the struggle against military rule and the June 12 democratic movement, noting that they both stood on the side of democracy during those difficult years.
The President celebrated Soyinka’s historic achievement as the first African to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986, describing him as a living symbol of knowledge, history and national pride whose impact continues to shape writers, scholars and activists worldwide.
Wishing the celebrated author many more years in good health, Tinubu expressed gratitude for Soyinka’s steadfast belief in Nigeria and his continued guidance on national issues.
