Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, is scheduled to visit Nigeria from July 21 to 22 for high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and deepening cooperation on regional and global issues.

The visit, which will take the German delegation to Abuja and Lagos, is expected to feature discussions with senior Nigerian government officials as well as business leaders from both countries.

According to a statement issued by the German Embassy in Abuja, Wadephul will be accompanied by a delegation of chief executives and senior executives of leading German companies operating in the information technology and energy sectors, alongside members of the German Parliament.

In Abuja, the German Foreign Minister will hold talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray.

The discussions will focus on regional peace and security, economic integration within West Africa, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Germany, Nigeria and the wider sub-region.

In Lagos, Wadephul will participate in engagements designed to deepen economic and cultural ties between both countries, including a business roundtable involving German and Nigerian companies.

The meeting is expected to explore new opportunities for trade, investment and commercial partnerships as both countries seek to expand economic cooperation.

The German Embassy described Nigeria as Africa’s largest economy and one of Germany’s most important partners on the continent, noting that the two countries share a long-standing relationship built on mutual respect and shared interests.

According to the embassy, the visit underscores Germany’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Nigeria in areas such as sustainable economic development, energy transition, regional stability and security.

The embassy added that the engagement reflects Berlin’s broader commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria and West Africa as a whole.
