Ogun extends worker palliatives, transport support

The Ogun State Government has extended its work palliative measures for public and civil servants, including a N10,000 monthly transport allowance, to help workers cope with rising transportation costs.

Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the continuation of the one-day-off-duty arrangement and transport support for another three months, covering July to September 2026.

The initiative was introduced as part of efforts to reduce the economic pressure on workers following the increase in petrol prices.

The governor said the extension was aimed at cushioning the impact of higher transport expenses while encouraging civil servants to remain committed to efficient service delivery.

The palliative scheme had earlier covered the period from April to June 2026 before the latest extension was approved.

A circular issued by the State Head of Service, Iskeel Saka, directed eligible workers to maximise the benefit while ensuring government services are not affected.

Under the renewed arrangement, the one-day-off-duty concession will not apply to workers whose duties require constant physical presence.

Those excluded includemedical personnel, judicial workers, teachers and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors and other officials receiving special responsibility allowances.

The government explained that these categories of workers perform essential duties that cannot be interrupted.

The Ogun State Government said it would continue to introduce policies aimed at improving workers’ welfare and reducing economic challenges.

It added that the measures were designed to support employees while maintaining productivity and effective public service delivery across the state.
