The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has dismissed reports that he resigned from office, describing the claims as false and linking them to individuals unhappy with the government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
Musa made the clarification on Tuesday after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he spoke with State House correspondents.
The minister said he had neither contemplated stepping down nor held discussions with anyone about resigning from his position.
He explained that the rumours were being promoted by people who were dissatisfied with the progress being recorded in the fight against insecurity across the country.
“I have not contemplated resignation, and I have not discussed resignation with anybody,” Musa said.
He maintained that he remained focused on his responsibilities as Defence Minister and would continue working with the nation’s security agencies to strengthen ongoing operations aimed at improving security.
The clarification comes amid continued public attention on the government’s security strategy, with the military and other security agencies facing pressure to intensify efforts against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime.
Musa, a retired general of the Nigerian Army, was appointed Defence Minister as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s defence leadership and improve coordination among the armed forces.
The minister did not provide further details on those behind the resignation claims but urged Nigerians to focus on supporting ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
