Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved a monthly stipend of N30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps member serving in the state.
The allowance was announced during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Representing the governor at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, said the state government remained committed to the welfare, security and development of corps members deployed to Ebonyi.
“This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia told the corps members.
He described Ebonyi as a peaceful and welcoming state with opportunities for young people, urging the new corps members to use their service year to acquire new skills, interact with people from different backgrounds and contribute positively to their host communities.
Onyia also encouraged them to take their primary assignments seriously and make meaningful contributions to the development of the state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi Government for its partnership with the scheme and its investments in youth development.
However, she appealed for further intervention to address infrastructure gaps at the orientation camp located at the former MacGregor College in Afikpo.
Among the facilities identified for attention were the camp’s central kitchen and the need for a standard dining hall.
Maidariya also called for the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development centre, renovation of the camp’s perimeter fence and improvements to the multipurpose hall.
She urged the newly deployed corps members to uphold discipline and actively participate in camp activities while embracing the core values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.
The coordinator also acknowledged the efforts of camp officials, resource personnel and security agencies in maintaining order during the orientation exercise.
The swearing-in ceremony included the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members, tactical displays by the Man ‘O’ War unit and cultural performances.
Officials also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects within the orientation camp as part of activities marking the ceremony.
