AGF calls for stronger framework to restore public trust in governance

The Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr Shaakaa Chira, has called for a stronger institutional framework to restore public trust in governance.
Chira made the call at the 54th Bi-Annual Conference of the Body of Federal and States Auditors-General, on Wednesday in Lagos.
”’When we are strong together, our shared ambition of an entrepreneurial future is realistic.
”We will persevere with professionalism, integrity, and our resolve to achieve results,”* Chira said.
The conference had the theme: “Nigerian Accountability Ecosystem: Leveraging on Performance Audit for Effective Governance and Transparency”.
He emphasised the need for auditors to harness technology, invest in training, and foster interagency collaboration to improve audit outcomes.

Chira stressed the importance of collaboration among auditors-general across state and local governments to advance common goals.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with auditors-general, persevering with professionalism, integrity, and a resolve to achieve results.
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabide Agoro, urged auditors not to see themselves as the policeman of the system, but as partners in progress with all the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) they worked with.
”Auditors should ensure that the discipline of quality, integrity, and accountability in the public service is promoted,”Agoro said.
