INEC assures Anambra voters of smooth, glitch-free election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters in Anambra State that the governorship election scheduled for Saturday will be conducted smoothly, with no technical or logistical disruptions.

INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner, Ken Ukeagu, provided the assurance on the eve of the election during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He stated that all preparations, including personnel deployment, distribution of election materials, and technical arrangements, had been completed in readiness for the polls.

Ukeagu emphasised that the commission’s mandate is to deliver a fair, credible, and inclusive election for Nigerians, and particularly for the people of Anambra State.

He said the commission is fully committed to ensuring that voters’ experiences at the polling units are free of delays and technical problems.

The assurance comes amid concerns raised following previous elections in which the commission faced challenges such as late arrival of materials, malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and other logistical setbacks.

Ukeagu, however, dismissed these concerns, stressing that all materials and personnel would arrive early at polling units on election day.

He affirmed that there would be no glitches or technical issues, and that all arrangements had been put in place to ensure a credible election.

Ukeagu also confirmed that INEC is prepared for a possible runoff election, in accordance with electoral law.

He explained that if no candidate meets the legal requirements for victory, the commission is ready to conduct a runoff to determine the winner.

Anambra State, known for its high political activity, has witnessed intense campaigning in the weeks leading up to the election.

Security agencies and election observers have completed their preparations to ensure that voting proceeds in a peaceful and orderly manner.

According to Ukeagu, election materials have already been delivered to Registration Area Centres (RACs) across the state.

Vehicles and personnel are on standby to ensure early deployment of materials and staff to polling units on election day.

He added that most RACs have been activated and that the next step is to move the materials to the polling units on the morning of the election.

Ukeagu reassured residents that the commission’s goal is to facilitate a transparent, credible, and smooth voting process for all eligible voters in the state.

The election in Anambra is expected to attract significant attention, given the state’s political relevance and active electorate.

INEC’s detailed preparations and coordination with security agencies are intended to prevent any disruptions and ensure that voters can exercise their rights without challenges.
