IBB commends NIPR management for upholding institute’s mission and vision

Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, has praised the management of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for remaining steadfast in upholding the mission and vision of the Institute, which was established during his administration.
Babangida made the commendation on Saturday at his Minna residence when he received a delegation from NIPR, led by its National President, Dr. Ike Neliaku. The visit formed part of the 60th-anniversary celebrations of the Institute.
“The Institute has consistently contributed its expertise to national affairs,” Babangida said. “I have always believed in writing a new narrative for this great country, and I commend NIPR for its efforts in fostering a better society.
The Institute’s influence continues to grow, and in time, it will shape a nation everyone can be proud of.”
He further noted that NIPR’s model has set an example internationally, encouraging other countries to emulate its approach to public relations.
Babangida expressed pride that the Institute has remained true to the expectations set out for it decades ago.
Dr. Neliaku explained that the visit was part of the Institute’s anniversary events, marking six decades since its founding in 1963.
He highlighted that Babangida had granted NIPR a law 34 years ago, which has since become a strong framework for public relations practice globally.
“The child you gave us 34 years ago reached 60 in 2023, but celebrations were postponed due to the general elections.
”I assure you, your efforts and sacrifices have not been in vain,” Neliaku said.
He also highlighted NIPR’s ongoing initiatives, including the “Rebirth Nigeria” program in partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
The initiative focuses on citizens’ education, value reorientation, promoting made-in-Nigeria goods and services, and enhancing service delivery.
Neliaku also announced plans to establish a University of Public Relations and Leadership in Nasarawa State, noting that the state government has pledged support for the project.
Earlier, the delegation visited the Emir of Minna, Dr. Farouk Bahago, to seek his support, recognizing the importance of traditional institutions in national development.
The Emir commended NIPR for valuing traditional authority and their role in society.
Governor Umaru Bago of Niger, represented by Alhaji Abubakar Salisu, Head of Service, also applauded Babangida’s foresight in signing the 1990 decree that gave legal recognition to NIPR.
He encouraged the Institute to support the “New Niger Agenda”, focusing on infrastructural development, security, and agricultural initiatives for food security.
The Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, represented by Jibrin Ndace, Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), expressed alignment with the Institute’s vision of shaping societal values.
The 60th-anniversary celebrations kicked off with a road walk and the planting of sixty trees at the Three Arms Zone in Minna, symbolizing growth and renewal.
