Gov. Kefas set to defect to APC, says move serves state’s future

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has confirmed that he will formally leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19, in what he describes as a strategic decision for the state’s long-term development.

The governor made the announcement while inspecting the ongoing refurbishment of the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, which has been chosen as the venue for the high-profile defection rally.

He explained that the switch was guided by what he believes will better position Taraba to benefit from national political currents, insisting the move was not driven by personal ambition.

“On the 19th, I will officially join the APC. This is about securing the destiny of Taraba people,” Kefas said, noting that the ceremony is expected to draw political leaders and supporters from within and outside the state.

Pressed on whether the APC had set any conditions for his entry, the governor declined to go into specifics, saying his speech at the event would provide full clarity and give residents the chance to evaluate the circumstances themselves.

Members of the Taraba State Executive Council have lined up behind the governor’s decision.

Speaking on their behalf, Commissioner for Science and Technology Muslim Aruwa said the cabinet was united and would follow Kefas into any political platform he chooses.

According to him, aligning with the ruling party at the federal level was a strategic move intended to accelerate development projects across the state.

“Wherever the governor goes, APC, SDP, or ADC—we go with him,” Aruwa stated.

“This is not about personal interest. It’s about securing a better future for Taraba and ensuring development flows to our people,” he added.

He added that the defection was not just a political shift by the governor but a movement that would carry the entire state along. “We are behind him completely,” he said.
