Police dismiss reports of mass abduction in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has denied reports claiming that more than 100 worshippers were kidnapped during a church service in Kajuru Local Government Area.
Police authorities described the reports as false and capable of inciting panic across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, spoke after a State Security Council meeting in Kaduna.
He also challenged those spreading the report to provide names and details of the alleged victims.
Rabiu cautioned individuals he called “conflict entrepreneurs” to desist from spreading unverified claims.
He further warned that anyone found deliberately spreading falsehoods would face legal consequences.
The Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Council, Dauda Madaki, said security operatives were immediately deployed after the rumour emerged.
According to him, investigations showed that no attack or abduction took place in Kurmin Wali village.
Madaki said the village head and youth leader both confirmed that nothing unusual happened at the church.
He added that no resident had reported missing relatives or worshippers.
The council boss said repeated calls for a list of abducted persons produced no response.
He insisted that the claim lacked any factual basis.
Madaki suggested that the rumour might have been sponsored by individuals unhappy with the improved security situation in Kajuru.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue their normal activities.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), said religious leaders also investigated the claim.
He confirmed that their findings showed the report was completely false.
Security officials advised residents to report suspicious movements and rumour peddlers to authorities.
They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kaduna State.
