Police seize truck with suspected explosives in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying materials believed to be explosive devices during a security operation in Saki, raising concerns over public safety and criminal activity in the area.
Police authorities said the interception followed actionable intelligence that prompted operatives to conduct a stop-and-search exercise.
During the operation, officers flagged down the truck, discovered the suspicious items, and immediately secured them to prevent any potential threat.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, the materials were taken into custody while further security measures were activated.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, was briefed on the development and promptly ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.
Specialised units, including personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, were deployed to handle the items safely.
The units were tasked with securing the materials and conducting forensic examinations to determine their exact composition and potential use.
Police sources confirmed that the driver of the truck has been arrested and is currently cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to trace the origin and intended destination of the materials.
The command disclosed that forensic analysis is ongoing and assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent any security breach.
Residents of the state were urged to remain calm, as authorities emphasized that there is no immediate danger.
Commending the operation, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for strengthening intelligence-driven policing across the country.
The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
