Opeifa pledges renewed drive for railway revival

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has restated the Federal Government’s resolve to rebuild and modernise the nation’s railway network as part of a broader push for economic and infrastructural development.
Opeifa made this known during an interview on national television, where he highlighted strategic measures being implemented to reposition rail transport as a reliable and efficient mode of mobility for Nigerians.
He explained that the Corporation is prioritising the rehabilitation of existing rail lines, improvement of operational standards, and expansion of services to meet growing national demand.
According to him, rail transport plays a vital role in promoting economic growth, easing the movement of goods and people, and fostering national unity.
He noted that an efficient railway system would reduce pressure on road networks, lower transportation costs, and enhance safety for commuters and businesses.
The NRC boss further disclosed that the Corporation is intensifying efforts to improve customer experience, boost freight capacity, and attract private sector participation.
These steps, he said, are aimed at making rail transport more affordable, accessible, and competitive while supporting job creation and commercial activities across the country.
Opeifa reaffirmed that the revitalisation of the railway sector remains central to Nigeria’s long-term transportation and development plans, adding that sustained investment and policy support will be key to achieving a modern, dependable rail system for the nation.
