Nigeria, Angola sign visa waiver agreement for diplomatic passport holders

Nigeria and Angola have formalised a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, advancing bilateral relations.

The agreement was signed during the 39th African Union Summit by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Téte António.

The MoU is aimed at easing official travel between the two countries and enhancing diplomatic engagement.

Minister Tuggar highlighted that improved mobility for government officials could pave the way for stronger economic and private sector collaboration.

“It is the very foundation of strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and Angola.

”When government officials move freely, they create the opportunity for the private sector to move freely,” Tuggar said.

António expressed optimism that the agreement could lead to broader visa waivers in the future, signalling both nations’ commitment to expanding cooperation beyond diplomatic circles.

The initiative aligned with broader efforts to strengthen political, economic, and regional partnerships under the framework of African continental integration.
