Fubara calls for water conservation across Rivers

The Government of Rivers State has called on citizens and residents to take deliberate steps toward preserving water resources, stressing the need to secure clean and safe water for future generations.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the appeal on Sunday at Government House in Port Harcourt, where he described water as an invaluable natural endowment essential to the survival of humans, animals, and plant life.

In a message marking World Water Day, the governor emphasised that access to clean water is central to healthy living, economic prosperity, and environmental stability.

He urged residents to treat water as a vital gift of nature by avoiding practices that lead to waste and pollution of rivers, streams, and other water bodies.

Fubara also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening water supply systems across the state.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to upgrade existing infrastructure, expand access to potable water, and promote sustainable water management practices that will benefit all communities.

Highlighting the significance of the day, the governor noted that March 22 serves as a global reminder of the importance of water.

He commended the people of Rivers State for their resilience in managing available water resources over the years, while encouraging them to intensify efforts toward conservation.

“Water is life, and Rivers State is richly blessed with it.

”However, we must do more to protect and preserve this resource. Our collective responsibility is to ensure that future generations continue to enjoy clean and sustainable water,” he stated.

He added that his administration remained focused on improving water supply and sanitation across the state.

Observed annually on March 22, World Water Day is a United Nations initiative aimed at raising awareness on freshwater conservation and advocating for the sustainable management of water resources worldwide.
