Arsenal advance to champions league semi-finals

Arsenal have secured a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after a tense 0–0 draw with Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium, advancing 1–0 on aggregate.

Mikel Arteta’s side progressed thanks to Kai Havertz’s late winner in the first leg in Portugal, a goal that ultimately proved decisive across both legs of the quarter-final tie.

The London club endured a nervy night at home, with Sporting CP creating several clear chances in the first half.

Sporting CP went close through Francisco Trincão and Pedro Gonçalves, while goalkeeper David Raya was nearly punished after a misplaced pass gifted an opportunity to the visitors.

Sporting’s Geny Catamo came closest to breaking the deadlock, striking the post with a volley following a cross from Maxi Araújo, as Arsenal struggled to settle early on.

Despite a strong opening spell from the visitors, Arsenal gradually regained control, though the match remained finely balanced and tense, particularly after their recent Premier League setback against Bournemouth.

In the second half, Sporting continued to press forward, with Araújo missing another promising chance from inside the box that could have levelled the tie.

Arsenal also had opportunities to extend their advantage, with substitute Leandro Trossard heading against the post from a late corner in a near-miss that summed up the tight nature of the contest.

The result means Arsenal reach consecutive Champions League semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history.

Arsenal F.C. will now face Atlético Madrid in the last four as they continue their pursuit of a first European title.
