Woman slumps, dies at child’s UTME centre in Ondo

There was panic in Ilara-Mokin, a community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, after a middle-aged woman, identified as Oluwasola Adebayo, collapsed and died while accompanying her child to a UTME examination centre.
During the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), on Monday, the woman was said to have escorted her child to the exam venue when she suddenly complained of weakness shortly after arriving at the junction near the centre.
Eyewitnesses said she slumped moments later and could not be revived despite attempts to assist her. She was confirmed dead on the spot, throwing the area into confusion and grief.
Her child, who was already inside the examination hall writing the test, was reportedly unaware of the incident until after the exam.
Residents said the incident attracted sympathisers who gathered at the scene, while authorities were later notified.
The exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident, saying the command was aware of the sudden death.
He added that the family of the deceased was contacted and, after proper identification, her remains were released to one Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.
The police urged calm as further details were expected following preliminary inquiries.
