Fubara commends NYSC for boosting rural healthcare in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its significant contributions to rural healthcare delivery through its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
Fubara gave the commendation during the swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members deployed to Rivers State, held at Nonwa-Gbam in Tai Local Government Area on Friday.
He described the initiative as an effective intervention that has positively impacted healthcare services in rural communities.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, attended the event alongside the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma.
He expressed satisfaction with the increasing number of corps members posted to the state, saying it reflects public confidence in the peace and governance of his administration.
Fubara assured that his government would continue to prioritise the welfare of corps members while supporting their development into future leaders.
He urged them to take full advantage of the orientation programme and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator in Rivers, Mr. Moses Oleghe, said corps members were well prepared and motivated to serve the nation.
He noted that the scheme continues to equip graduates with practical experience to promote self-reliance and nation-building.
Oleghe commended the state government for its sustained support and appealed for the construction of a 1,000-bed hostel facility at the orientation camp to address accommodation challenges arising from the rising number of corps members deployed to the state.
A total of 3,665 corps members, comprising 1,328 males and 2,337 females, took the Oath of Allegiance administered by Justice Florence Fiberesima, who represented the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Amadi.
