Woman allegedly sets Co-wife, 2 children ablaze in Kano

Tragedy struck in the Hotoro area of Kano State after a woman allegedly set her co-wife and two children on fire in a late-night attack that has left residents in shock.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night in the Mai Allo area, where the victims, an unnamed 28-year-old woman and her two children aged seven and three were attacked inside their home.

The victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

The children are said to have suffered severe burns.

The father of the children, who also sustained injuries while trying to rescue them, is also receiving treatment.

A relative of the victims said the family was alerted in the early hours of the morning.

“We were informed that my sister, her husband, and the children had been set ablaze by her co-wife,” the relative said.

He added that the woman had only recently moved into the home.

“She is about 28 years old. The children are from her previous marriage. They are stepchildren to the husband, who works as a tricycle rider,” he said.

Another relative, Sa’ad, said the new wife had spent less than two weeks in the matrimonial home before the attack.

Residents described the incident as deeply disturbing and called for swift justice, saying such violence had no place in the community.

“We are shocked by what happened. This kind of violence has no place in our community,” a resident said.

The suspect is currently in police custody at the Mariri Police Division.
As of press time, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
