Iran says no trust in United States

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has said Tehran does not trust the United States, blaming shifting U.S. positions for undermining diplomatic efforts between both countries.
Araghchi made the remarks on Friday while speaking to journalists at the conclusion of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, India.
“We have no trust in Americans. This is the main obstacle in the way of any diplomatic effort. We have every reason not to trust Americans, while they have no reason not to trust us,” he said.
The Iranian foreign minister said Washington had repeatedly changed its stance over time, arguing that such inconsistency had weakened prospects for meaningful negotiations.
He also claimed that after about 40 days of conflict, the United States facing difficulties in achieving its objectives in what he described as aggression against Iran had recently shown interest in talks.
Araghchi cautioned against further escalation, saying certain actors were attempting to draw the United States deeper into conflict.
“The warmongers want to drag the United States again into another war,” he said, expressing hope that diplomacy would eventually prevail.
“I hope that wisdom and diplomacy will finally prevail, and we go down the line of diplomacy to find a negotiated solution,” he added.
On the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s position that the waterway remains open, while stating that restrictions apply only to countries engaged in hostilities against Iran.
“This is our wish that it will be fully reopened. As far as we are concerned, the Strait of Hormuz is open and all vessels can pass except the vessels of those countries that are fighting with us,” he said.
He also argued that the strategic waterway lies within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman and should be jointly managed by both countries.
Araghchi added that consultations were ongoing between Tehran and Muscat to establish a framework for safe and orderly passage of vessels in the region
