Arsenal clinch first Premier League title in 22 years

Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City failed to defeat AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday.

City, who had won six of the previous eight league titles, needed victory to cut Arsenal’s lead to two points and push the title race to the final day of the season on Sunday.

However, Bournemouth took the lead in the 39th minute through Junior Kroupi, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side chasing the game.

Although Erling Haaland grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser, the defending champions could not find the winning goal they desperately needed.

The result confirmed Arsenal as champions before their final league fixture away to Crystal Palace F.C. on Sunday, a match that will now serve as a celebration of the club’s historic achievement.

It marks Arsenal’s 14th English league title, moving them behind only Liverpool F.C. and Manchester United F.C., who have both won 20 league crowns.

The triumph is also Arsenal’s first Premier League title since the famous 2003/2004 “Invincibles” season under former manager Arsène Wenger, when the club completed the campaign unbeaten.

After finishing as runners-up in each of the previous three seasons, manager Mikel Arteta has now guided Arsenal back to the summit of English football.

The North London club could yet complete a remarkable campaign, having also reached the UEFA Champions League final where they will face Paris Saint-Germain F.C. on May 30 in pursuit of their first European crown.
