JAMB releases 279 withheld UTME results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released 279 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results that were previously withheld for investigation over suspected examination malpractice.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, via the board’s official communication channels.

According to the board, the release followed the outcome of ongoing investigations into cases flagged for possible examination misconduct during the 2026 UTME exercise.

JAMB explained that while some results were cancelled outright after evidence of malpractice was confirmed, others were cleared and released after no prima facie case was established against the affected candidates.

The board added that results from centres flagged for suspicious activity by its live monitoring team, or those that received adverse reports, remain withheld pending further investigation.

It further warned that where sufficient evidence of culpability is established in ongoing probes, such results would be cancelled in line with examination regulations.

The 2026 UTME commenced on April 16 and ended on April 23, with over two million candidates participating in the computer-based examination across various centres.

Candidates whose results are still pending were advised to check their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to designated short codes (55019 or 66019) using the phone number used during registration.

JAMB also reiterated its admission guidelines for the 2026/27 academic session, maintaining 150 as the cut-off mark for universities and 100 for polytechnics.

The board further noted reforms in the admission process for Colleges of Education, where candidates seeking Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes would no longer be required to sit for the UTME, provided they meet minimum O-level requirements.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by JAMB to strengthen examination integrity, improve transparency, and enhance credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
