Tinubu appoints Aina as new JAMB registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second-term tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Aina is a distinguished academic and systems expert with strong experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems and public-sector institutional reform.

Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University and is described as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of computer engineering.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

The Presidency noted that Aina has over 15 years of post-graduation experience working across technology, policy development and institutional reform, advising both federal and state governments on digital transformation and system design.

He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council and the NABTEB, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity and process optimisation.

According to the statement, Aina previously began his early exposure to JAMB operations during his National Youth Service, an experience that shaped his interest in education administration and data-driven systems.

The Presidency expressed confidence that the new appointee would build on the achievements of his predecessor and further strengthen the operations of JAMB in line with ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s education sector.

Professor Oloyede, who has served as JAMB Registrar since 2016, previously held leadership roles including Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and Chairman of key Nigerian university administrative bodies.

The appointment is seen as part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to inject younger technocrats into key public institutions ahead of future reforms in the education sector.
