Sanwo-Olu calls for peace at Eid celebration

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity and harmonious coexistence during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The governor made the call in his Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims across the country on Tuesday.

The message was conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile.

Sanwo-Olu encouraged Muslims to uphold the values of spirituality, patience and sacrifice as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

According to him, Eid-el-Kabir remains a significant Islamic festival that symbolises faith, obedience and perseverance in difficult times.

“This symbolic Islamic festival is a reminder that there will always be great rewards when we have abiding faith and patience in trying times,” he said.

The governor noted that the celebration also emphasises sacrifice for spiritual fulfilment and societal development.

“It also reminds us of the sacrifice we are expected to make not only for spiritual fulfilment but also for the progress of mankind,” Sanwo-Olu added.

He urged Nigerians to emulate the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim by avoiding actions capable of threatening national unity and stability.

“I want to appeal to all Lagos residents and Nigerians to draw lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s exemplary life,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu also called on citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to build a prosperous nation.

He said sustaining growth and development in Nigeria requires collective responsibility, cooperation and support from all citizens.

The governor congratulated Muslims in Lagos State and across Nigeria on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

“On behalf of my family and the Government of Lagos State, I wish our Muslim brothers and sisters a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” he said.
