Governor pledges continued drive for state development

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, on Friday credited the successes recorded by his administration in the last three years to the grace and mercy of God, declaring that his government had continued to execute projects across the state without taking loans.

The governor made the remarks during the 2026 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

Addressing political leaders, traditional rulers, clerics, government officials and residents, Oborevwori said the anniversary celebration was an opportunity to appreciate God for sustaining his administration since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

He described the journey so far as “eventful, exciting and enlightening,” while expressing gratitude to Deltans for their support and cooperation throughout the period.

According to the governor, his administration has focused on programmes and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of the people.

“Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our sight. I remain eternally grateful to God for finding me worthy to serve the people of Delta State in this capacity,” he said.

Oborevwori stated that despite the economic and administrative challenges faced by the state, his government had remained committed to prudent financial management and responsible leadership.

He emphasised that all contracts awarded by his administration were backed by available funds, insisting that Delta State had continued to meet its obligations to contractors without borrowing from financial institutions.

“We are here to thank God for the wisdom to execute development projects all over the state without borrowing a kobo from anybody or bank. Every contract that we give out, the money is available.

”We have constantly discharged our obligations to our contractors,” the governor stated.

Oborevwori also attributed the peaceful atmosphere in the state to divine favour and the cooperation of security agencies, noting that peace remained essential for development and economic growth.

He observed that the State had continued to attract investors because of its stable environment and strategic position as one of Nigeria’s leading oil-producing states.

The governor also praised security agencies for maintaining law and order across the state and acknowledged the contributions of past leaders, including former governors Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

According to him, the foundations laid by previous administrations had helped his government to sustain developmental efforts across different sectors.

Oborevwori equally appreciated the support of Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, members of the Delta State House of Assembly led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political appointees, civil servants and other stakeholders.

He called on residents of the state to remain united and continue supporting the administration as it moves into the concluding phase of its first tenure.

“Delta State is our home. We don’t have any other state. What is important is how we come together to build this state.

”With unity, Delta will continue to move forward and become an envy of other states,” he added.

Delivering a sermon titled “Ever Increasing Progress,” renowned cleric Apostle Joshua Selman stressed the importance of acknowledging God as the foundation for sustainable progress and development.

The preacher commended the state government for sustaining the annual thanksgiving gathering and prayed for continued peace, prosperity and advancement in Delta State.

Selman highlighted seven biblical principles for lasting progress, including courage, humility, thanksgiving, strategic relationships and the pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth.

He also applauded Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to development projects across the state and encouraged leaders and citizens not to lose focus despite criticisms and challenges.

The event featured scripture reading by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, while several gospel artistes including Dunsin Oyekan, Moses Bliss, Asu Ekiye, Solomon Urete, M & Revelation, Jerry Ekpekuro and Solo Kings ministered in songs.

A major highlight of the celebration was the cutting of the anniversary cake to commemorate the administration’s three years in office.

Among dignitaries present at the event were former governors James Ibori and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone, as well as members of the House of Representatives including Francis Waive, Jonathan Ukodhiko and Nnamdi Ezechi.
