Amusan Wins Gold, Sets New Record

Nigeria’s sprint hurdling star, Tobi Amusan, continued her impressive 2026 campaign by clinching gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan.

The world record holder delivered another commanding performance, crossing the finish line in 12.72 seconds to secure first place and further underline her status as one of the leading athletes in the event.

Amusan finished comfortably ahead of home athletes Bo Ya Zhang, who claimed silver in 13.17 seconds, and Yi Po-an, who settled for bronze after posting a time of 13.37 seconds.

Beyond winning the race, the Nigerian star also rewrote the competition’s record books.

Her winning time eclipsed the previous meet record of 12.80 seconds, a mark set by American Olympic silver medallist and former world champion Nia Ali.

Amusan showed signs of her excellent form long before the final race.

The 29-year-old impressed during the qualification rounds, comfortably winning her heat and carrying that momentum into the final.

Once the championship race got underway, she quickly established herself as the athlete to beat.

After clearing the fourth hurdle, Amusan surged into the lead and steadily increased the gap between herself and the rest of the field.

Her dominance was so evident that she crossed the finish line well before the final competitor negotiated the last hurdle.

The victory was another reminder of the consistency and confidence she has displayed throughout the season.

Another Record-Breaking Performance
Saturday’s triumph marked the second consecutive competition in which the Nigerian hurdler has broken a meeting record.

Only days earlier, Amusan produced another remarkable display at the Rabat Diamond League, where she shattered her own meeting record in the women’s 100m hurdles event.

That performance further strengthened expectations that she could be heading into one of the finest seasons of her distinguished career.

The latest achievement means Amusan has now set records at back-to-back international competitions, highlighting her growing momentum ahead of the major athletics events later in the year.

Amusan’s latest gold medal adds to an already impressive record this season.

So far, the three-time African champion has won three of the five races she has contested in 2026.

Equally impressive is her consistency, as she has finished on the podium in every race she has entered this season.

The performance in Taiwan also reinforces her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most successful track athletes and one of the strongest contenders in global women’s hurdling.

With consecutive record-breaking performances and a series of podium finishes, Amusan appears to be building form at the perfect time as she targets further success on the international stage.

For the Nigerian star, the victory in Taiwan was not just another gold medal it was further proof that she remains among the very best in the world and continues to push the boundaries of excellence in the women’s 100m hurdles.
