Katsina Court Sentences Woman to Death

A Katsina State High Court has sentenced a woman, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, to death by hanging after finding her guilty of aiding terrorism through the supply of arms and ammunition to bandit groups.
Mukhtar was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services after she was allegedly intercepted at Jibia motor park while transporting ammunition linked to criminal activities in the region.
Court documents and security reports indicated that she was found in possession of 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, which were allegedly destined for a bandit leader identified as Ado, believed to operate from Dunburum forest in Zamfara State.
The DSS subsequently filed a two-count charge against her at the Katsina State High Court, where the case was presided over by Justice A. B. Bawale.
During the trial, the court examined witness testimonies and reviewed evidence presented by the prosecution, which argued that the defendant knowingly facilitated terrorist activities by supplying weapons.
In delivering judgment, the court held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, thereby establishing Mukhtar’s culpability in the offences charged.
She was consequently sentenced to death by hanging under the provisions of the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021.
The ruling marks one of the latest convictions in ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt arms supply networks supporting banditry and terrorism in the North-West region.
Authorities have continued to intensify operations targeting logistics and financial support systems sustaining armed groups operating across rural forest corridors in the area.
