NSCDC Trains 106 Officers on Firearm Safety

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps FCT Command has trained 106 personnel on intensive pistol management.
The training is part of efforts to boost professionalism and improve operational efficiency within the corps.
It also aimed at reducing cases of accidental discharge and strengthen firearm handling standards.
The two-week programme was held at the NSCDC headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
It focused on proper weapon handling, tactical use, and adherence to operational procedures.
Officers were also trained on safeguarding critical national assets and protecting lives and property.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu said the corps maintains zero tolerance for negligence involving firearms.
He warned that accidental discharge is considered serious professional misconduct.
“In the NSCDC, we do not condone accidental discharge,” he said.
Odumosu stressed that officers must remain accountable and act with professionalism at all times.
He also reminded personnel that the public should not be treated as an enemy.
He urged officers to observe rules of engagement and exercise restraint in their duties.
“The public is not our enemy,” he added.
The commandant said officers are deployed to protect citizens, not intimidate them.
He commended the NSCDC Commandant-General for approving the training programme.
Odumosu said continuous capacity building remains essential to the corps’ mandate.
He urged participants to remain disciplined and committed to national service.
Officers received both theoretical and practical instruction during the training.
Modules included firearm safety, marksmanship, tactical handling, and ethical use of force.
Training content aligned with global best practices and NSCDC standard operating procedures.
Certificates were presented to the 106 graduating officers at the end of the programme.
The exercise marks another step in improving readiness and professionalism within the FCT Command.
