FG Bans Okadas, Tricycles on Coastal Highways

The Federal Government has announced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of measures to preserve the newly completed infrastructure and extend its lifespan.
The restriction, which takes effect this week, was announced by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare.
According to Dare, the decision was taken to prevent misuse of the highway and ensure that the multi-billion-naira road remains in good condition for years to come.
He explained that the ban also covers all bridges across Lagos State, warning that commercial motorcycles, tricycles and other prohibited activities would not be allowed on the affected routes.
The ministry further prohibited the indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles on the highway and bridges, describing the practice as a threat to traffic flow and the durability of the infrastructure.
In addition, motorists and residents have been warned against dumping refuse along highway corridors, with the government stating that strict enforcement measures would be implemented against violators.
Dare disclosed that traffic signs highlighting the new restrictions have already been installed, while enforcement teams will be deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance.
Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure project, he urged road users to cooperate with the new regulations, stressing that proper maintenance and responsible use are essential to preserving the highway and ensuring its long-term benefits for Nigerians.
