Nigeria reaffirms commitment to UN partnership, women, youth leadership

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has received Ms Ahunna Eziakonwa, who was recently elevated to the position of United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, describing her appointment as a source of pride for Nigeria and the African continent.
Nigeria used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the United Nations in advancing development, democratic governance, and inclusive leadership across Africa.
The Federal Government expressed strong support for programmes that promote women’s political participation and youth inclusion, noting that Nigeria remains committed to nurturing the next generation of African leaders who would drive democratic governance, sustainable development, and lasting peace across the continent.
It also reiterated Nigeria’s resolve to work closely with the UN in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and other initiatives aimed at improving living conditions across Africa.
Earlier, Ms Eziakonwa commended Nigeria for its leadership role in shaping Africa’s development agenda, particularly in promoting regional economic integration, innovation, entrepreneurship, and policies that strengthen intra-African trade and regional value chains.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to advancing programmes that strengthen women’s participation in governance and public leadership.
The visit further reinforced Nigeria’s appreciation of Ms Eziakonwa’s elevation and its continued engagement with global partners on development and inclusion priorities.
