The mother of murdered final year student, of LeadCity university, Ibadan. Madam Cordelia Okonye has called for justice for the murder of her daughter Augusta Onuwaghage
21 years old Onuwaghage , was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, one
Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin.
Madam Okonye narrating her ordeal said, ”My daughter, Augusta Osedion Onuwabhagbe went into relationship with Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin in December 2021 and she brought him home on the 8th of December 2021.
”They had a fight once in 2022 October, afterwards he came to my house, kneeled, begged my son and I that he won’t lay his hands on her again. When he left, my daughter begged us to allow her give him second chance.
”On the 11th of July, he impersonated someone to talk to her on the IG. He then called me that Austa never cheated on him before but that she responded on the affirmative to come see him in Lagos.
”Then he said that he will deal with her but won’t kill her. I cautioned him that he shouldn’t say that and that I will talk to my daughter when she comes.
”My daughter called that night that he threatened to deal with her and that he sworn by his mother’s grave. I told her to be careful until 29th July when she would have come for vacation.
”On the 12th of July, he told my daughter to come to Lagos from Ibadan so that they could resolve their misunderstanding unknown to my daughter that he had bought knives down.
”As my daughter got there, he killed her after midnight and took her phone and was using her phone to chat me for days making me believed that she was alive. On that same 13th that he killed her, he took off to Ghana at dawn.
”On the 15th July, my son got the feeling that something was wrong with his sister and called me to go to Benjamin house. We
got to his house 24A Abiola Apooyin Street, Oral Estate, Ajah Lagos.
” His gate was locked, his AC upstairs was on but the windows were opened. We went to the police station in Ajah Division and police officers followed us to his house.
”They climbed upstairs and saw her in her pool of blood bloated out already with multiple stab on her belly button and her intestines were out. She was taken to the morgue same night.
”On the 17th July, when he discovered that her body has been carried to the morgue. Benjamin ( killabio , his IG handle) confessed publicly to the killing of his girlfriend ( Austa xxo, her IG handle) and that he was going to turn himself in. Afterwards, he started chatting me that I should give him time to do the right thing which he never did.
”He was declared wanted by the IGP on the 13th of October,2023. He was arrested in Sierra Leone on the 20th of October.
”The Nigerian Interpol was still gathering documents to go for his extradition and he escaped from their prison on the 26th November.
”Since his escape, both Nigeria Interpol and the IGP of Sierra Leone who gave Press Release when he was arrested have not made any public statement to that effect and nobody is looking for him.
”I’m pained that my only daughter and friend who was in her final year in LeadCity university, studying Medical Laboratory Science and on first class was killed and nobody is doing anything about her death.
”She was an Influencer and doing her jobs and schooling at same time. I’m calling on the general public to come to my help to see that her killer is tracked and brought back to Nigeria to pay for his crimes.”
Madam Okonye therefore appealed to the Federal Government, security agencies and relevant authority to help bring the murder of her child to book.
