8 dead, several injured in Lagos road crash

A devastating road accident occurred on Sunday at Atura Bus Stop, inbound Badagry, in Lagos State, claiming eight lives and injuring eight others.
The collision involved a 16-seater commercial Mazda bus (KJA 811 YF) and a DAF truck (T1 4636 LA).
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the commercial bus lost control while navigating at high speed, leading to a catastrophic collision with the DAF truck.
Eight persons, including the bus driver and conductor, died instantly, while eight others sustained varying degrees of trauma.
 LASTMA operatives, FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, and the 244 Battalion of the Nigerian Army launched a coordinated rescue operation, extracting eight surviving passengers and evacuating them to the General Hospital in Badagry for medical attention.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the crash site, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and prayed for divine fortitude to help them cope with the loss.
Bakare-Oki advised commercial and heavy-duty vehicle operators to avoid excessive speeding, adhere to safety protocols, and ensure regular vehicle maintenance to prevent unnecessary fatalities.
The agency highlighted the deployment of speed-limiting mechanisms at critical flashpoints across Lagos, part of the state government’s commitment to reducing road carnage and promoting safety .
A separate road crash on Ome Bridge inbound Awa, Ijebu Ode, Obada Expressway, in Ogun State, claimed 10 lives and injured three others on Saturday.
