Gov. Aiyedatiwa vows crackdown after Ondo attacks

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, has vowed decisive action to flush out criminals operating in Imafon, Igushin and Ilado communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State following recent violent attacks.
The governor made the commitment during a condolence and familiarisation visit to the palace of the Olumafon of Imafon, Samuel Adegbehingbe Aliu, where he sympathised with victims and bereaved families affected by the attacks.
Aiyedatiwa described the killings as deeply disturbing, assuring residents that government efforts were being intensified to restore peace and protect lives and property.
According to him, the recent killings in the area are deeply disturbing and would not be tolerated under his administration.
He announced that posts of the Amotekun Corps would be established within the affected communities to strengthen surveillance and improve response time to security threats.
The governor also disclosed plans to deploy military personnel to support existing security architecture in vulnerable areas, stressing that a combined security approach would be adopted.
He appealed to residents, including youths, traditional leaders, hunters and vigilante groups, to cooperate with security agencies and avoid harbouring criminal elements.
Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives through lawful and structured security interventions.
In response, the Olumafon of Imafon commended the governor for his prompt visit and ongoing development projects in the area, particularly road construction, which he said would help improve security access.
However, the monarch raised concerns over the lack of firearms for vigilante groups, saying it has limited their effectiveness in responding to attacks.
He also criticised delays in the response of some security operatives during incidents, calling for improved coordination and support for local security structures.
