NBC urges Tinubu to tackle worsening insecurity nationwide

The Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently confront and decisively address the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, describing the situation as unbearable and unacceptable.

The call was made by the President of the Convention, Dr. Israel Akanji, during the 113th Annual Session of the NBC held in Abuja.

The session had the theme “Entering into Newness through the Fruit and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.”

Akanji said the Convention was aware that the current security challenges reflect the consequences of a compromised security architecture inherited by the present administration.

He however, stressed that the continued killings of innocent Nigerians across several states remain totally unacceptable.

He cited repeated attacks and killings in communities in Plateau State, including Jos, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Bassa Local Government Areas, as well as similar incidents in Benue, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Borno States.

According to him, the persistent violence, including killings, kidnappings, terrorism, and banditry, has become overwhelming for citizens.

He described the acts as senseless, brutal, and increasingly audacious, noting that perpetrators even circulate images and videos of their attacks on social media.

Akanji acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in addressing the situation but urged them to intensify their operations and deliver more effective results in protecting lives and property.

He emphasised that government remains the only authority with the constitutional responsibility to use force to confront criminal elements threatening national security.

The NBC president therefore called on President Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, take decisive steps to end insecurity in the country and restore safety and confidence among Nigerians.

He warned that continued insecurity undermines national stability and called for stronger political will and coordinated action to address the crisis.
