Ndokwa leaders unite, fault lawmaker’s alleged indifference

Political and community leaders from Ndokwa nation have moved to strengthen internal unity and collaboration, emphasising that collective action remains essential for meaningful development across the area.
The renewed call for cohesion was led by the President-General of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Chief Amechi Asugwuni, who expressed concern over what he described as a lack of responsiveness from the member representing Ukwuani at the National Assembly.
According to him, such perceived indifference could undermine efforts aimed at advancing the interests of the people.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement, Asugwuni stressed that Ndokwa’s progress depends largely on the willingness of its leaders to work together, regardless of political affiliations or personal differences.
He noted that unity among political actors, traditional institutions, and community groups would create a stronger platform to demand and attract development.
He maintained that the NNU was established to serve as a unifying body, bridging divides and championing the collective aspirations of the Ndokwa people.
“Our strength lies in our togetherness,” he said, while urging leaders to prioritize the region’s growth over individual interests.
The NNU president-general further called on elected officials to remain accountable to their constituents, insisting that leadership must be measured by visible impact and engagement with the people.
He cautioned that failure to stay connected with grassroots concerns could erode public trust.
Other stakeholders at the meeting echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the need for improved representation, better infrastructure, and sustained advocacy for government presence in Ndokwa communities.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to closing ranks and working in harmony to reposition the region for greater opportunities, insisting that unity would serve as a catalyst for both political relevance and socio-economic advancement.
The gathering concluded with a collective resolve to maintain dialogue and cooperation among leaders, while continuing to push for policies and projects that will directly benefit the Ndokwa people.
