RCCG rejects pressure to remove First Lady

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will remain an ordained pastor in the church despite public discussions surrounding her position.
Adeboye made the clarification during the church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service, stressing that her ordination predates her husband’s presidential ambition.
He explained that Oluremi Tinubu was ordained as an Assistant Pastor over a decade ago after going through the full ministerial process, adding that she has not violated any church doctrine or guideline since then.
According to him, the church will not succumb to external pressure calling for her removal from pastoral duties.
The RCCG leader reiterated that the church is not affiliated with any political party and remains open to worshippers from across Nigeria’s political landscape.
He noted that members of the congregation include supporters of major political parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Labour Party (LP).
However, he warned that political activities are not permitted on the church altar, stressing that it remains a place of worship rather than political campaigning.
Addressing national issues, Adeboye stated that the individual who will lead Nigeria in the future has already been divinely appointed.
He did not mention names but emphasised his belief in divine direction over political processes.
The cleric also spoke on insecurity affecting Christians in parts of northern Nigeria, saying the church has remained active in providing humanitarian support.
He referenced ongoing assistance to internally displaced persons through camps and welfare programmes, rejecting claims that the church has been silent on the issue.
Adeboye reaffirmed the RCCG’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities while continuing its spiritual and social outreach across the country.
