Tinubu embarks on three-nation diplomatic tour

 

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja on Saturday, May 2, 2026, for a two-week official visit covering France, Kenya, and Rwanda, the Presidency has announced.

The trip would begin in France before the President proceeds to Nairobi, Kenya, for the Africa-France Summit scheduled for next week.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

The Africa-France Summit, co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto, would focus on key issues including energy transition, green industrialisation, digital transformation, climate action, and reforms in global financial systems.

Tinubu is expected to participate in the summit sessions scheduled for May 11 and May 12, 2026, where he will reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to stronger partnerships with African countries and France.

Themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth,” the summit would bring together African and French leaders to discuss economic transformation, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, technological growth, climate resilience, and peacebuilding efforts.

After the Nairobi meeting, the President would travel to Kigali, Rwanda, to attend the Africa CEO Forum taking place between May 14 and May 15.

The forum, themed “Scale or Fail,” is regarded as Africa’s largest private sector gathering, bringing together more than 2,000 business leaders, investors, and policymakers.

It is organised in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and will focus on strategies for boosting economic growth, regional integration, and cross-border investments across Africa.

During both engagements, Tinubu is expected to present Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and efforts to position the country as a leading investment destination.

He would also engage in high-level meetings with global and African business leaders to strengthen economic ties and attract investment.

The President woulld be accompanied by select ministers and senior aides throughout the trip and is expected to return to Nigeria after the Rwanda engagements.
