Barcelona win La Liga after Clasico triumph

Barcelona secured their 29th Spanish La Liga title after defeating fierce rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in a decisive Clasico encounter on Sunday at Camp Nou.

Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres scored first-half goals to hand Hansi Flick’s side a memorable victory, as the Catalan giants successfully retained the league crown while condemning Real Madrid to a disappointing trophyless campaign.

The victory moved Barcelona an unassailable 14 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid with only three matches left to play this season.

The title race was settled directly through a Clasico result for only the second time in La Liga history.

The first instance came in 1932 when Real Madrid clinched the league title following a draw against Barcelona.

Barcelona entered the encounter knowing that avoiding defeat would be enough to secure the championship, but Flick’s men showed no signs of caution as they attacked aggressively from the opening whistle.

Real Madrid arrived at Camp Nou surrounded by internal turmoil after midfielder Fede Valverde was ruled out with a head injury reportedly sustained during a training-ground altercation involving teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, who still featured in the match.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick also faced personal tragedy ahead of the game following the death of his father.

Despite the devastating news, the German manager took his place on the touchline and guided his team to a comfortable and emotionally charged victory.

With teenage sensation Lamine Yamal unavailable through injury, Flick handed Marcus Rashford a starting role on the right wing.

The Manchester United loanee rewarded his manager’s confidence with an outstanding performance.

Barcelona wasted little time asserting dominance and raced into a two-goal lead within the opening 18 minutes of the match.

Rashford opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick from about 20 yards out.

The England international curled the ball superbly into the top-left corner, leaving goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with no chance.

The Camp Nou crowd erupted once again moments later when Ferran Torres doubled Barcelona’s advantage in front of more than 62,000 supporters enjoying the first Clasico at the renovated stadium since its reopening.

Dani Olmo played a clever backheel pass into the path of Torres, who surged into the penalty area before firing past Courtois to make it 2-0.

Real Madrid attempted to respond, with Gonzalo Garcia filling in for injured superstar Kylian Mbappe coming close after breaking through Barcelona’s high defensive line, but his effort drifted narrowly wide.

As pressure mounted on Madrid, coach Alvaro Arbeloa urged his players forward from the touchline amid growing uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

Barcelona nearly extended their lead before halftime when Rashford missed another opportunity after firing wide despite Fermin Lopez being free inside the box.

The hosts continued to dominate after the restart. Ferran Torres should have grabbed his second goal early in the second half, but Courtois produced a fine save to deny the Spanish forward.

Madrid briefly thought they had pulled a goal back when Jude Bellingham found the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia also produced an important save to stop Vinicius Junior as Madrid searched desperately for a route back into the contest.

The atmosphere inside Camp Nou quickly turned celebratory as Barcelona supporters taunted Vinicius Junior with inflatable beach balls while singing and celebrating their latest domestic success.

Real Madrid managed to avoid further humiliation late in the game as Courtois denied substitutes Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski to keep the scoreline respectable.

Barcelona remain on course to equal the record of 100 points in a single La Liga season and could still finish the campaign with a perfect home record if they defeat Real Betis in their remaining home fixture.

For Real Madrid, however, the defeat capped another frustrating season without silverware and intensified speculation over a major summer overhaul at the club.

Former manager Jose Mourinho has already been linked with a sensational return as club president Florentino Perez searches for answers to halt Barcelona’s growing domestic dominance under Hansi Flick.
