Manchester United set to confirm Carrick appointment

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Michael Carrick to take over as the club’s permanent head coach after an impressive spell in interim charge.
Formal contract procedures are currently in progress, with an official announcement expected within the next 48 hours, although there is some uncertainty over whether the deal would be completed before Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest.
Club sources indicated that United are keen to finalise the appointment before their final home game of the season.
Carrick is expected to sign an initial two-year contract, which will include an option to extend for a further 12 months depending on performance.
The 44-year-old has been in charge since replacing Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed in January, and has overseen a notable improvement in results and team stability at Old Trafford.
Under his leadership, Manchester United secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, a key factor that strengthened his case for the permanent role.
The club’s executive structure, including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, are said to have backed Carrick’s appointment and submitted the recommendation to ownership group INEOS, which has now approved the decision.
The move is expected to bring continuity to a squad that has undergone tactical restructuring during the interim period.
