Sanwo-Olu leads Lagos APC lawmakers-elect to Tinubu

Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on Saturday led candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Lagos State House of Assembly on a Sallah homage visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence.
The visit brought together the 40 APC assembly flag-bearers, the deputy governor, and senior party leaders in what was described as a solidarity engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bola Tinubu received the delegation during the traditional Sallah courtesy call, which also served as a political briefing and interaction between the president and the candidates.
Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu explained that the engagement gave the candidates direct access to the president, where they received guidance on leadership, service delivery, and party discipline.
He added that the APC flag-bearers committed themselves to stepping up grassroots mobilisation efforts across their constituencies as preparations intensify for the next election cycle.
“The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Sanwo-Olu said the visit provided an opportunity for the candidates to interact with the president and receive guidance on leadership, service and party loyalty,” the report stated.
He further noted that Tinubu urged them to remain focused on delivering democratic dividends and maintaining strong ties with their constituents.
“This is another solid visit to Mr. President, who graciously opened his residence to us,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“We came with the governorship flag bearer, the deputy governor, party leaders and, more importantly, the 40 men and women who emerged as our party’s flag bearers for the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he added.
Commitment To Party Unity And Service
According to the governor, the candidates expressed gratitude to the president for his leadership and pledged loyalty to both federal and state administrations in strengthening governance outcomes.
He said they also assured that they would remain active in their constituencies while sustaining voter support for the APC.
He added that the president advised them to deepen internal unity and ensure broad-based engagement at ward and community levels.
“They have given their commitment and assured the president that they will go back to their constituencies, work across the board, and ensure that people see the real dividends of democracy,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that despite the APC’s dominant position in Lagos politics, the party would not relax its political efforts ahead of future elections.
He called for reconciliation and sustained outreach, especially among party members who participated in the primaries but did not emerge as candidates.
“As candidates of the party, they have a responsibility to close ranks and reach out to everyone, including those who contested against them,” he said.
“We will not take anything for granted. We want to hit the ground running and ensure that every constituent is carried along,” he added.
The governor also assured that the party would provide logistical backing, data support, and organisational structures to strengthen the candidates’ campaign outreach across Lagos State.
He expressed confidence that the flag-bearers would effectively communicate government achievements and APC programmes to voters.
“They are motivated, encouraged and ready to go out there and sell the party and sell it very well,” the governor said.
