Delta Govt. Clarifies EFCC Staff Verification Exercise

The Delta State Government has clarified reports surrounding a recent staff verification exercise conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging civil servants to remain calm.
It said the visit by EFCC operatives to ministries, departments and agencies in the state was not an unusual or targeted action against workers.
The clarification was issued during the 2026 Civil Service Week briefing on Monday in Asaba.
Head of Service, Mininim Oseji, explained that the EFCC initiated the verification exercise independently.
She said the anti-graft agency had written to the state government requesting access to payroll records and nominal rolls.
According to her, the request was part of wider efforts to identify and eliminate ghost workers in public service.
Oseji said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved the exercise after reviewing the EFCC request.
She added that the state had nothing to hide and fully cooperated with the commission.
She disclosed that a senior official was assigned to accompany EFCC operatives during the screening.
She also confirmed that even the Office of the Head of Service participated in the verification process.
Oseji said she personally submitted her appointment and identity documents during the screening.
She added that EFCC officials expressed satisfaction with the records they reviewed.
According to her, the state government has not received any adverse report from the exercise.
She stressed that the verification process was transparent and carried out without interference.
The Head of Service also highlighted ongoing reforms in the civil service system.
She said the state is upgrading its training centre into a modern capacity-building institution.
She noted that the reform aims to improve discipline, digital skills and service delivery.
Oseji also listed additional welfare initiatives for workers, including transport support and financial counselling.
She urged civil servants to comply with professional standards and maintain proper conduct.
The government reiterated that the exercise is part of efforts to strengthen accountability in public service.
