Sanwo-Olu Hails Senate on State Police Bill

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has congratulated President Bola Tinubu following the Senate’s passage of the constitutional amendment bill to establish State Police.
In a personally signed statement, Sanwo-Olu described the development as “epochal,” calling it a major step in Nigeria’s security and governance reforms.
He said the approval reflects a shift toward stronger federalism and improved security architecture in the country.
Sanwo-Olu said the creation of State Police represents a major victory in the fight against terrorism and other forms of crime.
He added that the reform has long been central to President Tinubu’s governance philosophy.
According to him, today is a great day for our country, a day to celebrate the triumph of genuine democratic and developmental ideas over parochial sentiments.
The governor praised Tinubu’s leadership and described him as a “champion of true federalism.”
He noted that the idea of State Police had been part of Tinubu’s vision since his tenure as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.
“We are happy to witness its emergence in Nigeria,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu commended the Senate for “making history” with the constitutional amendment.
He also urged state Houses of Assembly to support and ratify the bill to ensure its full implementation.
He said broad legislative backing would strengthen Nigeria’s security system and governance structure.
