Oborevwori Approves 13th-Month Pay for Delta Workers

Delta State workers are set for a festive boost as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the payment of a 13th-month salary for civil servants, reinforcing his administration’s focus on staff welfare and motivation.

The announcement came during the 2026 Public Service Week Dinner and Awards Night in Asaba, where the governor also sanctioned a threefold rise in cash rewards for high-performing public servants.

He said the gesture reflected his commitment to rewarding excellence and strengthening productivity across the state workforce.

Describing the public service as central to the success of government policies, Oborevwori said reforms only achieve impact when workers are well supported, properly incentivised, and given room for professional growth.

He praised civil servants for their role in delivering government programmes under his MORE development agenda.

Reaffirming his pro-worker stance, the governor noted that welfare-related proposals receive immediate attention, stressing that a motivated workforce of over 60,000 employees remained vital to his administration’s success.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure support for the bureaucracy, including the completion of new residences for Permanent Secretaries and the procurement of official vehicles for newly appointed senior officials.

Plans to improve affordable housing access for workers were also restated.

In addition, salaries for the Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries have been increased by more than 50 per cent, as part of broader efforts to strengthen leadership within the civil service.

The Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, described the event as a platform for reflection, capacity building, and recognition of excellence, while urging workers to embrace reforms anchored on integrity and innovation.

Awards were presented to outstanding staff, including recognition for exemplary punctuality and agricultural excellence, with cash prizes and plaques handed out by the governor in celebration of service dedication.
