Akwa Ibom Receives First CNG Bus Fleet

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has described the arrival of the first 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses as a major milestone in the state’s drive to modernise public transportation.
The buses form part of 50 units ordered by the state government to improve mobility across all 31 local government areas, with the goal of delivering safer, cheaper, and more efficient transport services.
Speaking after inspecting the vehicles, Eno said the initiative represents a key phase in the gradual transformation of the state’s infrastructure landscape, adding that visible results of ongoing projects are beginning to emerge.
He explained that the next stage of the programme will include the completion of bus terminals, installation of tracking systems, and the introduction of a modern digital ticketing platform to improve service delivery and accountability.
The governor commended the Ministry of Transport and other partners involved in the project’s execution, including security agencies, for ensuring smooth delivery of the buses.
He urged residents to remain patient and supportive, stressing that sustainable development requires careful planning, consistency, and time to fully materialise.
According to him, the new transport scheme aligns with his administration’s goal of making movement easier and more structured, especially given ongoing improvements in the state’s road network.
The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke, praised the governor’s vision, describing the project as evidence of a deliberate effort to reform and strengthen the transport sector.
Government officials present at the reception of the buses included senior aides and heads of key agencies involved in infrastructure and economic development.
