The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has dismissed reports claiming that he threatened to resign from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet, describing the allegation as false, baseless and a product of misinformation.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework, urging Nigerians to rely only on information issued through official channels.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the minister said his office had become aware of what he described as a malicious and fabricated rumour circulating online and on social media platforms, alleging that he planned to leave his position.
The statement stressed that the reports were completely untrue and intended to mislead the public.
“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief,” the statement read.
It added that General Musa remains focused on his national security responsibilities and committed to executing the government’s defence agenda.
“General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy with results already being seen,” it said.
The minister’s office also advised members of the public, media organisations and online users to disregard the report and verify information through official sources before sharing.
“We strongly advise media outlets and internet users to desist from spreading unverified information and seek clarifications from the office,” the statement added.
