The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is moving to turn its growing political presence in the North-West into a formidable electoral force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s latest push came with a strategic engagement between its founder and National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and state chairmen across the zone, signalling an intensification of efforts to build the grassroots machinery required for a strong showing at the polls.
For the NDC, the North-West represents more than another campaign territory. Its large electorate and longstanding influence on presidential contests make the region central to the party’s ambition of winning nationally with the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket.
Dickson described the meeting as “very fruitful,” indicating that discussions went beyond routine party administration to focus on strengthening structures and sharpening strategies for the coming electoral battle.
He commended the North-West leadership, led by the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Kwankwaso, for its commitment to advancing the NDC’s fortunes in the region.
The former Bayelsa governor also urged members and supporters to work collectively, stressing the importance of unity and coordinated mobilisation as the party moves closer to the 2027 campaign.
“The discussions were fruitful, and we remain confident that victory is achievable,” Dickson said.
The significance of the meeting lies in what the NDC hopes to achieve with its North-West structure: converting political goodwill and prominent personalities into an organised voting bloc capable of delivering substantial numbers for its presidential and other candidates.
With Obi leading the presidential ticket and Kwankwaso bringing his established political network to the alliance, the party is positioning the North-West as a critical front in its national strategy.
The challenge, however, will be turning organisation into votes.
As the 2027 contest begins to take shape, the NDC’s success in the North-West could become one of the clearest tests of whether its emerging political coalition can move beyond high-profile alliances and translate its structure into electoral victory.
