Edo governor appoints visually impaired lawyer to key justice role

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has appointed Ms. Kindness Idahosa, a lawyer living with visual impairment, as a Law Officer in the state’s Ministry of Justice, signaling a strong commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity.
The governor’s office confirmed the appointment on Thursday, noting that the appointment reflected the administration’s intention to recognise talent and capability over physical limitations.
“Disability does not define ability,” the governor remarked, emphasising that opportunities must be available to all qualified citizens.
Idahosa’s path to this milestone was not without challenges.
Diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, she spent thirteen years away from formal schooling.
Her education resumed with support from a disability-focused advocacy group that provided a wheelchair and facilitated her return to school.
With determination and support, she enrolled in the University of Benin, earning a Second-Class Upper Division in law.
She went on to complete her Bar Finals at the Nigerian Law School in 2024 and was formally called to the Bar in September 2025.
Governor Okpebholo described the appointment as an example of the administration’s dedication to creating an environment where all residents can thrive, regardless of physical challenges.
He added that Idahosa’s success is a reminder that resilience and talent deserve recognition and support.
