Borno community seeks rescue of abducted residents

Residents of in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno, have appealed to President to urgently intervene and secure the release of more than 400 persons abducted by insurgents.
The community, which came under attack in March 2026, made the appeal amid ongoing displacement and humanitarian challenges faced by survivors of the assault.
The call was conveyed by Senator
Ali Ndume who represents Borno South Senatorial District, during a press conference held on Monday in Pulka, where many of the displaced residents are currently taking refuge.
Ndume urged the Federal Government to prioritise rescue operations for those still in captivity, stressing the urgency of the situation and the need to restore hope to affected families.
In addition to the rescue efforts, Ndume called on the government to rebuild the devastated community and provide humanitarian assistance to displaced persons struggling with the aftermath of the attack.
The lawmaker also highlighted the need for the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, including roads and residential buildings destroyed during the assault.
He commended Governor for his intervention, noting that the governor had already donated one hundred million naira to support the Ngoshe community.
Ndume appealed to the international community, especially the United States of America, to beam its searchlight on the three black spots of Sambisa Forest, the Mandara Mountains, and the Lake Chad region in Borno State, for the safety of residents.
He identified critical areas requiring surveillance and intervention to enhance security and protect civilians.
The appeal underscores growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the North-East, as communities continue to grapple with the impact of insurgency and displacement.
