Genevieve Nnaji returns in BBC series ‘Wahala’

Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji is making a return to the screen after several years away from acting, joining the cast of a new BBC drama series titled Wahala.
The broadcaster confirmed her casting this week, announcing that the six-part series would be filmed in London.
The production is based on the novel Wahala by Nikki May and adapted for television by Theresa Ikoko.
It tells the story of four Nigerian-British women whose friendship, love lives and family relationships are disrupted by long-buried secrets.
Nnaji’s return marks one of her most notable acting appearances since her role in Lionheart.
In recent years, she has largely stepped away from acting to focus on work behind the camera.
She previously served as an executive producer on I Do Not Come To You By Chance, an adaptation of the novel written by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani.
Speaking on her involvement in the new project, Nnaji expressed excitement about rejoining a major production team.
“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.
The series writer, Theresa Ikoko, also welcomed the collaboration, describing her enthusiasm for the project and its creative team.
“I can’t wait to bring Wahala to life with this amazing cast, wonderful directors and brilliantly talented crew,” she said.
Wahala, a Nigerian Pidgin word meaning “trouble”, is being produced by Firebird Pictures in association with BBC Studios.
The drama is expected to air across BBC platforms upon completion.
