Okpebholo pledges strengthened security in Edo, meets new Army Commander

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents, pledging enhanced collaboration with the military to combat insecurity.
The governor made the remarks during a courtesy visit by Brigadier-General Ahmed Balogun, the newly appointed Commander of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, at the Government House in Benin on Thursday.
Governor Okpebholo assured the army of full state support, noting that securing Edo is a top priority for his administration.
“The security and protection of the people and property of Edo are very important to us. We are prepared to work wholeheartedly with you to ensure Edo remains safe,” he said.
Highlighting technology-driven initiatives, the governor disclosed plans to procure multifunctional drones to bolster surveillance and security operations across the state.
Okpebholo also encouraged the military commander to bring any operational challenges requiring government intervention directly to his attention.
Brig.-Gen. Balogun, in response, commended the governor’s commitment to security and pledged to strengthen cooperation between the state and the military.
He identified key areas requiring attention, including the completion of the Ekenwa Barracks Road and the renovation of the Brigade School, and emphasised the value of drone technology in modern security operations.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including Secretary to the State Government Umar Musa Ikhilo, Chief of Staff Mallam Gani Audu, and Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, Mrs. Edith Sede.
The engagement signals a renewed partnership between Edo State’s civilian leadership and the Nigerian Army, aimed at creating a safer environment for residents and reinforcing the state’s security architecture.
